A-L candidate found gagged, tied in classroom

A schoolgirl attached to the a leading school in Kandy who came to sit the GCE Advanced level examination yesterday was found gagged and tied inside a classroom.

Since the girl was not present in the examinations hall when the examination commenced yesterday, examination authorities had inquired about her absence and some students had said they saw the girl arriving in the school to sit the examination yesterday morning.

Following a search, the authorities found the girl gagged and tied up inside a vacant classroom with rags of cloth stuffed inside her mouth.

Since the girl was found half and hour after the examination commenced, the supervisor allowed her to sit the examination paper as usual after obtaining approval from the commissioner of examinations. Kandy Police is investigating.
