HSBC Group General Manager and Commercial Banking Global Co-head John
Coverdale, will arrive in the country today on an official visit to meet
with customers and senior management of the Bank. During his visit he
will also meet with Government officials and engage in key events
organized by the bank.
Coverdale has extensive experience in Asia and presently oversees
HSBC’s relationships with corporates and SME’s in Asia Pacific, the
Middle East and Latin America.
Before taking up his current role in March 2009, he was Managing
Director of The Saudi British Bank (SABB), a position he held from 2005.
HSBC has a 40 percent shareholding in SABB. He was also Deputy Chairman
of HSBC Saudi Arabia and a board member of HSBC Bank Middle East, HSBC
Bank Egypt and SABB Takaful.
Coverdale joined HSBC in 1977. He was Executive Director and Deputy
Chief Executive of HSBC Bank Malaysia from 2000 to 2005. Prior to that
he was Chief Operating Officer for HSBC in the United Arab Emirates from
1998 to 2000.
He has also worked in Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei including three
postings in Honk Kong between the late 1970s and mid-1990s, the last
role being Head of Corporate Recovery.
He is also a Director of HSBC Global Asset Management (Hongkong) Ltd.
