Theatre workshop
A workshop conducted by one of the leading alternative theater
directors of India Parnab Mukherjee, for Sinhala, Tamil, English Theatre
directors and artistes will take place on 11th & 12th August, 2010 from
3pm to 5pm, 6 pm to 7 pm, performance by Parnab Mukherjee and 7 pm to 8
p.m. discussion with Parnab Mukherjee at Dr: N. M. Perera Centre, Cotta
Road, Borella.
Parnab Mukherjee is reported to have directed more than 150
full-length/workshop productions.
He has produced theatre projects on anti-uranium project struggle in
Jadugoda, Save Tenzin Delek campaign, rehabilitation after industrial
shutdowns, shelter issue of the de-notified tribes, a widely acclaimed
cycle of 12 plays against Gujarat genocide, and a range of issues on
north-east of India with special reference to Armed Forces Special
Powers Act, 1958.
He is the artistic director of Best of Kolkata Campus- an autonomous
non-registered performance collective and a performance foundry that has
completed 18 years of doing dedicated theatre in found spaces and public
arena. He has written four books of performance texts.

Thavath Udasanak at Elphinstone

Thavath Udasanak is a beautiful original play written by Henry
Jayasena, in the late 60s. Set in a rural village, the story revolves
around a small boy and his pet calf- Ratta.
This play can also be graded as a musical, with hilarious, situations
cleverly portrayed by Jayalath Manorathna, Wijeratne Warakagoda, Ruwini
Manamperi and Nimal Jayasinghe.
The role of the small boy is portrayed by Gayath Jayasinghe and
Hansaja Jayasena. The musical score is by Shelton Premaratne and
Jayantha Aravinda.
Two performances of the play will be held at Elphinstone Theatre,
Maradana, on August, 19 at 3.30 p.m. and 6.45 p.m.
Suraguru: Know your future
Suraguru,
a magazine comprising a series of articles based on astrology, entered
the market recently. The magazine comes every other month under the
editorship of Sr. Dhammika P. Bibile, former National Institute of
Education Director General.
The August and September issue focus on topics such as the ongoing
debate on whether the world will come to an end in 2012, who the next
president of Sri Lanka will most likely be, what your future is likely
to mirror, experimentations, and Graha Yoga.
It also consists articles on the most suitable Bodhi Poojas to excel
in education, the link between ayurveda and astrology, foretelling your
fortune through your name, Rahu Kethu and other interesting topics.
All together the variation of themes in the magazine comes up to more
then 25 articles.
