Ruwini Jayawardana
Magic! Was there ever another word which stirs your curiosity and
makes you halt on your tracks? Be it the traditional trick of pulling a
rabbit out of a hat or a more modern form like selecting the exact card
you have pulled out of a pack minutes before or a more daring stunt like
setting your self on fire while being chained to a chair, magic never
ceases to amaze the young and old.

Now the essence of this spectacular art will be brought to Sri Lanka
and the audience will be in for a treat when renowned magician Prof.
Pradeep Hudino tours the island dazzling the locals with his magic
tricks.
With over 30 years of experience in the field Hudino’s amazing
magical touch derives from the knowledge he gleaned from observation and
reading material. As he himself puts it he is a self taught magician who
had done continuous research on the subject for years.
“Magic is an interrogation of art in different styles. It is like a
garland of diverse techniques. Magic is universal and does not derive
from any particular region in the world. We have different forms of
magic in all parts of the culture,” he expressed on how he had merged
the essence of China and Egypt to his latest collection of tricks.
Some of his renowned magic are titled railway track escape,
motorcycle riding blindfolded for 450 km in 12 hours on a single day,
the great underwater mystery, Inferno magic, propeller escape, Indian
rope magic at open ground.
He even performed the daring act of chaining himself from head to
toe, locked with 16 padlocks, covered with 5000 double strong
firecrackers in 2000. He triumphed this amazing venture in double quick
time.
Constantly in demand, Hudino has now designed some of his magic to be
showcased indoors. The key to his success, he states, is that he keeps
on experimenting and introducing new tricks to his lineup.
He explains: “I change all my tricks with time. A magic show should
not be monotonous or you will run the risk of boring the audience.
If you have witnessed one of my shows you will feel the difference.
Each trick is very different from the other.”
His interest towards magic emerged at the age of seven while watching
street performers in action. These images were imprinted in the young
boy’s mind and triggered his curiosity.
“I observed shows conducted by magic schools and other magicians. I
studied their actions and analyzed the performance. I have read many
books on magic during my college days.
I tried to perform some tricks in simple ways. In time I succeeded
and I took to holding public performances. My fame spread. Soon I joined
the Magicians organization,” he said.
Having performed in the Gulf, Europe, Singapore, Malaysia, USA and
many other parts of the globe, he is on his first tour of Sri Lanka. He
will perform a number of shows titled ‘Magicfiesta at Sri Lanka’ from
August 14 to September 22. He hopes to return to India after the tour
and embark on a series of magic shows in various regions of the country.
He says: “On stage it may look very easy but in truth magic is very
difficult to master. Many books do not disclose the secrets of the art.
You encounter many failures before you get it right. Therefore you
should be armed with strong will, affinity and interest towards magic.
Magic is the art of secrecy in the heart and soul,” he concluded. |
