The story of Dax
The dog who lost trust in the human race but
found security and love at a shelter
On April 23l, the AWPA received a frantic call regarding Dax. He was
terrorizing the neighbourhood down Chapel Lane, Nugegoda.
Lost or abandoned and terribly frightened by the crackers people were
lighting to keep him at bay, he was attacking people. The AWPA tried
every avenue they could think of to rescue him but could not find a
solution.
Finally on Sunday April 25, with the help of a dog-catcher, Dax was
taken to the Pet-V-Care kennels in Dematagoda. But the story does not
end here.
A photo had to be taken of him to be forwarded to all the newspapers.
It was during this period when the AWPA were looking for his owner that
he attacked his keeper at the kennels. As we were not sure whether he
was immunized against rabies, he had to kept under observation for three
weeks.
His prolonged stay at the kennels has amounted to a five digit number
and they appeal for contributions towards his keep from all dog lovers.
Cheques are to be drawn in favour of The Animals' Welfare and
Protection Association and posted to the Treasurer, 14/1, De Fonseka
