Fidel Castro urges Obama to maintain world peace
CUBA: Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro urged US President Barack
Obama here Tuesday to maintain world peace and avoid a nuclear war.
“You should know that you have in your hands to offer humanity the
only real chance of peace,” the Cuban leader wrote in an article posted
on the official website CubaDebate.
Castro cited the current dangers threatening mankind — the oil spill
in the Gulf of Mexico, climate change and the “imminent US-Iran war
which could unleash a nuclear war.”
“I understand that I cannot expect, nor would you give me a quick
response. Think about it, consult with your experts, listen to the
opinion on the matter from your most powerful international allies and
adversaries,” Castro said in his article “A Request to the United States
President.”
The former Cuban leader urged Obama to find “solutions that do not
lead us back to the apocalyptic situation.”.
“Everyone in your country, even your worst enemies from the left or
right wings, surely will thank you, and also the American people who are
not guilty of this situation,” he said.
“The world can be truly free of nuclear weapons as well as
conventional ones. The worst of all variants will be nuclear war, which
is now virtually inevitable. Avoid it!” Castro said. HAVANA, Tuesday,
