Eastern Provincial Ministries to be shifted to Varodiya

The construction work to the Northern Provincial Council building Varodiya has been completed at Kilinochchi and all offices will be transferred to that building, Eastern Province Road Development, Housing and Construction, Irrigation, Rural Electrification and Water Supply Minister M S Uthumalebbe said.

He said though the North - the Eastern Provincial Councils were separated in 2007, the Norhern Provincial Governor's office and other ministries were functioning at a building belonging to the Eastern Provincial Council at Varodiya Nagar - Trincomalee. This situation made the Eastern Provincial Ministries to be set up at different venues, which has caused much hindrance to the public. Eastern Province Chief Minister S. Chandrakanthan has appointed a committee to look into the feasibility of shifting all Eastern Provincial Ministries under one roof at Varodiya to serve the public from Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara conveneintly.
