Kandy North special corr.
The Central Province is taking the forefront in Government efforts to
formulate a National Education Policy, CentralProvince Chief Minister
Sarath Ekanayake said when he addressed a meeting after opening a new
building and a Budu Medura costing Rs 1.2 million at the Nugawela (Boys)
Maha Vidyalaya, Harispattuwa recently.
He said a major feature of the new education policy envisaged by the
Government was to provide a sound computer education to every child.
This would enable children to probe the outside world and satisfy
their hunger for knowledge, he said. The Chief Minister said a program
to provide a sound computer education to children within the school was
now successfully underway.
Out of a total of 1,470 schools in the Central Province 900 have been
already provided with computer facilities.
He said the President's objective was to provide a computer to each
group of 75 students. The Central Province reached this target in
January this year.
Another feature of the new education policy was to provide all
students with a sound English education.
English would be taught to children as a life skill rather than make
them experts in the language, the Chief Minister said.
Principal Ven. Alawathugoda Ratanatissa Chief Sanghanayake Thera of
Uda Bulathgama Korale and several others also spoke.
