Illicit liquor seized

The Walana Central Anti Vice Squad arrested two leading illicit liquor manufacturers along with Goda worth Rs 800,000 in the Muthurajahwela marshy land on Sunday evening.

The two suspects, one a female and the other a male were arrested during two separate raids on the same day. The productions included 4,433 gallons of goda and another 111 bottles,160 drams of illicit liquor.

One suspect was handed over to Kandana Police and the other to Pamunugama Police for further investigations.

Police stated the barrels were hidden in the marshyland.

The muddy water of the marshyland had been used to prepare Goda. According to police, each person has brewed 1,000 bottles of illicit arrack and delivered the moonshine in Colombo and suburbs. The amount that was seized was the day’s sales.

The raid was conducted by five teams of the Anti Vice Squad consisting 41 police officers led by its Officer in Charge IP Duminda Balasooriya. The suspects were produced before the Magistrates yesterday.
