Books must inculcate moral values in children - Colombo Archbishop

Creation of books which inculcate moral values in children's minds is a noble deed said Colombo Archbishop Most Rev Malcolm Ranjith Pieris when authoress Nirmala Perera presented a copy of her maiden children's book 'Mage Rattaran Thaththa' to him at a ceremony at the Archbishop's House, Colombo recently.

Nirmala Perera who is an employee of Lake House is the daughter of late veteran media personality and author Dharmasiri Jayakody. She is a former Secretary of the Lake House Catholic Union.

The Archbishop said Nirmala Perera who had gathered a clear understanding about the children's mindset had authored her book 'Mage Rattaran Thaththa' in a manner that would divert children's minds towards high moral values and as such Christian parents as well as parents of other religions should be thankful to her for her noble endeavour..

Authoress Nirmala Perera said 'Mage Rattaran Thaththa' was her maiden literary work. She had decided to dedicate her entire life for writing books for the benefit of the child population.

She said all writers should consider it as a prime duty to write books that would set good examples to children.
