Kandy High School OGA (Colombo Branch) helps Alzheimer's Foundation
On the 131st anniversary of Kandy High School the Colombo Branch of
the Kandy High School Old Girls' Association KHS OGA will this year
channel its proceeds from its Annual Fund Raiser to the Lanka
Alzheimer's Foundation.
The KHS OGA (Colombo Branch) specifically aims to facilitate the
setting up of a Day Care Activity Centre for persons with dementia which
the Alzheimer Foundation has listed as one of its prioritised services.
A Dinner Dance which is the fund-raiser this year would be held on
October 21st at the Grand Ballroom, Hotel Galadari.
The KHS OGA (Colombo Branch) in the meantime, is driven with
determination to assist the Alzheimer Foundation to accomplish its
mission.
The Lanka Alzheimer's Foundation (LAF) which commenced building the
Dementia Services and Information Centre (DSIC) in October, 2008 and is
now nearing completion, will serve as the first organization in Sri
Lanka to provide quality information on dementia and related services.
The DSIC hopes to provide a Secretariat, a Library and Resource
Centre, a Memory Clinic and a Training Centre as well in order to
provide appropriate services, awareness and information to persons with
dementia, their family caregivers and the professional and lay community
at large.
The Foundation however, is faced with the challenge of furnishing and
equipping the Centre, staffing and sustaining the full service potential
which the Foundation hopes to offer to the public. The Foundation is a
community-based charity and so far has not received assistance from the
international donor-community or the public-sector.
