Students say 'sorry'

Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake yesterday commended students of the Sabaragamuwa University for ending their month long boycott of classes after fruitful discussions with the administration and said this gesture had set a fine example for students of other universities.

The Minister also commended the Vice Chancellor and the staff of the University for withdrawing the suspension imposed on a group of students involved in ragging after they apologized to the academic staff after offering sheaves of betel. The Minister said this gesture on the part of the Vice-Chancellor, academic staff and the students was in keeping with treasured Sri Lankan customs and traditions.
