Geeth 6/28 and a half ton

Promising all rounder Geeth Alwis captured six wickets for 28 and hit a superb half century to put Chilaw Marians CC well on course to a convincing first innings victory over Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club on the opening day of their SLC under 23 division one three day cricket tournament match which began at Rifle Green yesterday.

Air Force SC: 174 (S. Gayan 67, P. Samarasekera 40, G. Alwis 6 for 28).

Chilaw Marians CC: 151 for 3 (G. Alwis 63, R. Gunasekera 39 n.o, U. Karunaratne 30 n.o).


Century by Madawa

Elegant middle order batsman Madawa Warnapura hit a splendid 122 as Bloomfield piled up a formidable 291 for 9 in their first innings against the BRC on the opening day of another match commenced at Havelock Park.

Bloomfield: 291 for 9 (M. Warnapura 122, D. Fernando 75 n.o, D. Munaweera 51, M. Madushanka 7 for 120) v BRC.


Dilanka 7/53

Left arm spinner Dilanka Auwardt returned excellent figures of seven wickets for 53 as Colts CC dismissed their opponents SSC for 234 runs in their first innings on the opening day at Havelock Park yesterday.

SSC: 234 (D. Karu-naratne 44, U. Bandara 49, G. Maneesha 64, D. Auwardt 7 for 53).

Navy SC 286

Middle order batsman Dilan Chandima hammered a top score of 69 as Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club hit up an impressive 286 runs in their first innings on the opening day against Moors SC at Braybrooke Place yesterday.

Navy SC: 286 (U. Jayasundera 46, D. Chandima 69, U. Perera 38, S. Fernando 5 for 76).

Moors SC: 67 for 1 (D. Madumal 44 n.o).


Moratuwa SC 223 all out

Leg spinner Navin Kavikara snapped up four wickets for 76 to help Tamil Union dismiss Moratuwa SC for 233 runs in their first innings which commenced at Panadura.

Moratuwa SC: 233 (K. Fernando 89, S. Gunawardena 62, N. Kavikara 4 for 76).

Tamil Union: 55 for 1 (D. Jayatilleke 28 n.o).
