Death of Maj Gen JB Pagoda
Major General J.B. Pagoda (85) who rendered a great service to the
Motherland as a war hero passed away. His remains are at the Jayaratne
Funeral Parlour, Borella for public to pay their homage.
J.B. Pagoda, a relative of Education Ministry Secretary Sunil S.
Sirisena joined the Sri Lanka Infantry as a Second Lieutenant had
rendered a great service to the country as a war hero.
He was promoted to the rank of Major General in 1990 in recognition
for the services rendered to the Sri Lanka Army and the Motherland.
In addition, he had been awarded with the Sri Lanka Army 25th
Anniversary Medal, Riviresa Campaign Service Medal, Republic of Sri
Lanka Armed Service Medal, Sri Lanka Armed Services Long Service Medal
etc admiring his service rendered to the Motherland.
He held many posts including the Secretary of the Sri Lanka
Basketball Association, President of the Central Province
Ex-Servicemen's Association, Secretary of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen's
Association, Vice President of Korean-Sri Lanka Social and Cultural
Association, Personnel Manager of the National Paper Corporation,
Secretary of the Health and Indigenous Medicine Ministry etc.
He married Srimathi Nawaratne in 1970 and they have two sons and
three daughters. One of his sons Dr Rajeeva Pagoda is a Squadron Leader
of SLAF. Maj Gen Pagoda's other children are Nelakshi (Sweden), Esala
(Switzerland), Chamari (Austria) and Nilupuli. And the father-in-law of
Sumudu (Operations Manager - Lirneasia), Capt. Keerthika Piyasena
(UN-Austria) and Rajeewa Bandara (Marine Engineer).
Cortege leaves from the Jayaratne Funeral Parlour at 2.00 pm.
Cremation will be held at General Cemetery Borella at 2.30 p.m today.
