Costly garbage

Five persons were fined Rs 5,000 each by Welimada Magistrate for throwing garbage in public places.

Police said another eight persons are also in custody for throwing garbage in public places and will be produced in court.

Headquarters Inspector of Police Bandarawela Chamil K. Ratnayake told the Daily News the Urban Council and Pradeshiya Sabha are working together with Police to nab people who dump garbage haphazardly.
