the designer’s world |
Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (Pvt) Ltd (LIFT) will celebrate
its 10th anniversary in Colombo on July 29. Many fashion professionals
around the world will take part in a fashion show which is to be held to
mark the event.
The fashion extravaganza integrates design, fashion, music, dance and
professionals from the fashion scene.
Highlighting the theme ‘Sri Lankan Pride’ and many other creative
concepts, over 30 designers will showcase their collections which will
be modeled by top Indian and Sri Lankan models including some former
Miss India and Miss Sri Lanka.
The diploma students of LIFT were inspired by themes such as the
national bird, national flower, stone carvings, masks, Sri Lankan
motives, Kandyan dancers, the blue magpie and many more for their
designs while the Advanced Diploma students will present individual
themes. Collections sparked out of the pain behind a ballerina’s smile,
Waris Dirie – the desert flower, Fur or faux – protecting animals, Ink
Blot elicitations, Gothic architecture, emotions and colour, the
flourishing art of orchids are some of the themes included in their
collections.
For the first time this year, there will be a fashion accessory
design collection of shoes and handbags bringing the message of saying
no to animal skins by excluding the use of fur or leather.
The show will be inaugurated by reputed Indian designer Hemant
Trevedi, UK’s Northampton University International Director Delia
Heneghan and Scotland’s Robert Gordon University Fashion and Textiles
Divisional Head Kim Eason.
