Cuba supports Nelson Mandela Day
Cuba: The Cuban Parliament’s International Relations
Commission supported Thursday the celebration of Nelson Mandela
International Day, designated this year by the United Nations
Organization as July 18.
The Parliamentary group approved the declaration because of the Cuban
commitment to be faithful to Nelson Mandela’´s legacy and his struggle
for peace.
Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples of the World (ICAP)
President Kenia Serrano commented on the close relationship between the
Cuban Five, prisoners in US jails, and the African leader.
Serrano added Mandela constitutes an inspiration for resistance of
the Cuban Five, and the Cuban National Assembly’s vice president Jaime
Crombet highlighted the friendship of Cuban Revolution leader Fidel
Castro and Mandela. The date coincides with the birthday of the South
African leader in an exceptional moment in history: the economic crisis
leading to poverty and the exclusion of millions of human beings.
