Nepal on constitution making

NEPAL: Nepal’s three major political parties have finalized a schedule for constitution drafting and fixed April 13, 2011 as the deadline for the promulgation of a new constitution, The Kathmandu Post reported on Friday.

Leaders of the main opposition Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (UCPN-M), Nepali Congress and the Communist Party Nepal- Unified Marxist Leninist also agreed to add the State Restructuring Commission as a component in the new calendar of the Constituent Assembly (CA) and form the panel once the new government is in place.

The calendar will be endorsed by a CA meeting on Sunday, CA Chairman Subas Nembang was quoted as saying.

In a meeting held in the CA building on Thursday, the three parties also agreed to forge consensus on the reports of seven CA committees. Deputy leader of the UCPN-M Parliamentary Party Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the new government will announce the formation of the commission and the panel will start work from July 31.
