Nepal on constitution making
NEPAL: Nepal’s three major political parties have finalized a
schedule for constitution drafting and fixed April 13, 2011 as the
deadline for the promulgation of a new constitution, The Kathmandu Post
reported on Friday.
Leaders of the main opposition Unified Communist Party of Nepal
(Maoist) (UCPN-M), Nepali Congress and the Communist Party Nepal-
Unified Marxist Leninist also agreed to add the State Restructuring
Commission as a component in the new calendar of the Constituent
Assembly (CA) and form the panel once the new government is in place.
The calendar will be endorsed by a CA meeting on Sunday, CA Chairman
Subas Nembang was quoted as saying.
In a meeting held in the CA building on Thursday, the three parties
also agreed to forge consensus on the reports of seven CA committees.
Deputy leader of the UCPN-M Parliamentary Party Narayan Kaji Shrestha
said the new government will announce the formation of the commission
and the panel will start work from July 31.
