Security top priority
Organisers for this month’s African athletics championships said here
Thursday security would be a top priority in the wake of the deadly bomb
attacks in neighbouring Uganda at the weekend.
Kenya is set to host some of Africa’s top athletes including double
Ethiopian Olympic champions Kenenisa Bekele and Tirunesh Dibaba and
South Africa’s 800m world champion Mbualeni Mulaudzi at the event. “We
are leaving no chances on the security of the athletes.
Their arrival itineraries will be kept out of public knowledge and we
will ensure that the accommodation locations for some of the teams are
kept a secret,” Isaiah Kiplagat, head of the Africa 2010 organising
committee, told reporters.
