Sports Minister C.B. Ratnayake has given instructions to the Sri
Lanka Schools Rugby Association authorities to replay the abandoned
first semi-final of the Under-20 Milo Schools Knock-out rugby tourney
between St Peter’s and Isipathana which came to an abrupt halt due to
the unruly crowd behaviour last Wednesday.
However, the Master-in-charge of Rugby at St Peter’s College Sunil
Aponsu when contacted said that he has received only a document from the
Secretary of the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Association Denzil Darling,
after having a discussion with the Committee stating that the match will
be continued at Longden place today from where it was stopped due to the
unruly crowd, 10 minutes prior to the half time with the Peterites
leading 14-0.
Originally the match was to be continued today at the same venue from
where it was stopped with St Peter’s leading 14-0 after 30 minutes of
play in the first half.
Isipathana won the league championship in 1999 and they last won the
Knock-out Competition in 2001.
