Motor Races at Mirigama tomorrow

The Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club organized Motor Race Meet is scheduled to be held tomorrow at the Kanway Autodrome at Mirigama commencing at 9.00 a.m.

The organizers have made arrangements to hold sixteen events on this day with nine motor cycle events and six motor car events.

The track which is only one year old and few race meets run during that period showed that it needed more developments to make the track easy for riders and drivers to compete in a thrilling manner. Earlier these drivers and riders were not able to touch the maximum speeds due to a few problems on the corners.

These were done by the authorities concerned and a good day filled with thrilling racing can be witnessed by the spectators expected in large numbers.

The owners of the track also have attended to do some new arrangements for the safety of the spectators said Jayantha Perera.

The motor cycle races are expected to be keenly contested by the riders of the calibre of MCS Perera, Udesh Wedisinghe Maduranga Caldera, Ramal Pathiratne and Suraj Perera.

It will be interesting to watch some of the young riders who are competing in the Under 13 category taking the challenges from the top rung riders, they have entered to ride along with the seniors.

In the Motor Car Section the battle will brew up with Harsha Panduwawela, S.A. Harsha, Dhammika Pieris and Michael Wijesuriya in the SLN Nissan March 1000 class. Sister of Harsha S.A. Lakshika too will enter the fray to fight in this class cc.

The drivers to watch on this day are Susantha Gunewardana in the Ford Laser 1,500 cc and 12-kg class while K. Balasingham with face stiff opposition from Donald Buultjens in the Mini Class up to 1000cc.

Pasindu Pieris and experienced Irsharq Wahab will battle for supremacy in the Honda Civic 1600cc class. These two drivers are to face tough competition Michael Wijesuriya and Sanjaya Sedara Senarath in the same class.

With developments completed the riders and drivers will get the opportunity to touch maximum speed which will also thrill the spectators.
