The academic activities will be started at the Jaffna Technological
University soon, Vocational and Technical Training Institute Assistant
Director D.V.T.Y. Kulathunga said.
The Government of the Republic of Korea and Korean International
Cooperation Academy (KOICA) granted Rs. 233 million worth technical and
financial assistance to the University under an MoU signed with the
Government. The University has been upgraded into a sophisticated
technical university with the Korean technical knowhow, he said.
The University will hold lectures on Construction and Motor Mechanic
and they will be held as certificate and diploma level.
Kulathunga said around 40 students will be recruited per one course.
The University was upgraded as a pledge to enhance the technical
education of the country as promised by the Mahinda Chintana. Those who
fail to receive higher education can follow slandered technical
education through this university. Students will be educated up to
diploma level for which there is a great demand in the job market, he
said.
There are around nine technical colleges in the island. This will be
the tenth college of this type. All other technical colleges have
already started academic activities. Kandy, Badulla, Rathnapura,
Kurunegala, Anuradhapura and Ampara are the other places where technical
colleges have been established.
