BDB to sponsor writers

The Book Development Board (BDB) will grant sponsorship to 200 writers every year under its writer assistance program.

Under this program, books to the value of Rs 5,000 would be purchased from each writer subject to maximum totalling rupees one million annually, said Board Secretary Vijitha Welagedara. Books written in all three languages will be covered by this scheme, he said. A program to encourage the writing of children's books would also be launched by the Board concurrent to this sponsorship program.
