Knuckles, Horton Plains and Sri Pada forests as world heritages?

A proposal to include Knuckles, Horton Plains and Sri Pada forests as a mixed world heritage will be presented to the UNESCO World Heritage Summit which will be held from July 25 to August 3 in Brazil, Forest Department Conservator General M.P. Sarath Fernando said.

He was speaking after a meeting acting Environment Minister Faizer Musthapha at the Ministry.

These forests are believed to contain high ecosystem variety and unique biodiversity.

“We presented this proposal to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and they have accepted it saying that these forests satisfy the criteria as a world heritage due to the rich biodiversity,” he said.

Three delegates from Sri Lanka will participate at this summit including Deputy Minister Faizer Musthapha and Conservator General Sarath Fernando.
