Increase in gold use now

The gold usage in Sri Lanka has increased by 20 percent in the post-war situation. It is due to the free movement of people. Many people from distance cities are now heading to Colombo in the hope of purchasing gold jewellery, making it a special occasion of their life, Vogue Jewellers Director, Nanda Perera told Daily News Business.

Vogue Jewellers expects to venture to the North and East areas with the assistance of a partner.

“We want to have a partner who is comfortable in working with us as there is a language barrier,” he said. The gold usage in the country has increased as many of the brides come to Sri Lanka to have their weddings. There is a huge demand for plain jewellery rather than stone-studded jewellery.

“The Government decision to reduce the import tax on gold has not really reflected on the local jewellery industry. The jewellery manufacturers involved in international business have benefitted by the decision,” Perera said.

He also said that casting technology has come into effect in the jewellery industry and Vogue Jewellers has introduced the computerized gold analyser for high quality products. Vogue Jewellers expects to have an increase of 10 to 12 percent depending on the gold prices. Vogue Jewellers redefined the paradigms of the bridal dream with the introduction of Sri Lanka’s first-ever “ Bridal Haven” and totally personalized “ Bridal Nest” at its showroom, Colombo

The “Bridal Haven” is dedicated space with unique bridal ambiance in which the bide-to-be can go through a wide range of wedding jewellery with her fiance, family and bridal dresser.

Within the “Bridal Haven” is the adjacent “Bridal Nest”, a specially created intimate and personalized enclave in which the bride can not only try on her jewellery but also experience the total preview of herself with her bridal attire, hair and make up.
