Poetry

Let them bloom

"Children are the wealth"
It's a beautiful saying
When you look around
A vast decaying
All around the world
Utmost negligence
and the brutal surroundings
Make them suffer
and corrupt the little minds
Of the innocents
Time to safeguard this enormous
treasure on the earth

Revengeful acts between parties
With endless conflicts
Greediness in grabbing power
Flying missiles from one to another
Destroys lives
Of the cute, little, harmless kids
Thousands in a raw
An unbeatable sorrow
Weeping mothers
Holding their painful breasts
An awful scenario
Raping, kidnapping, murdering
and demanding for ransom
Proves brutality

Forceful command to hold a rough gun
Meaningless aim, there it begins
It's a curse, don't ever ruin
The life of a growing human
Teenage boys, pretty and handsome
Clueless walk, with a leader
Around the beach
Displaced ones
Fleeing and seeking protection
With severe starvation
How dirty and savagery to aim on
War and tsunami victims
Suffering from mental distress
Need proper attention
Effectively and abundantly
To help out

Children on the street
With no aim or guidance
Roaming up and down
No one cares, what is on
Dusty skin and the rotten dress
Hanging in pieces
Spread the smell of poverty
Through their blur eyes
They see the beautiful ones
Passing by
Hanging on to parents
Petting, embracing and caring
A heart-rendering scene
That makes emotional pang
To the neglected ones

Master's rough voice
Echoes in that huge house
All through
Endless harassments, punishments
Just swallowing the left-outs
That never fills
On that harder concrete
Dreaming of horrible shadows
And frightened faces
Awaken with that painful kick
To start another day
With a heavy workload
All alone
The bitter class bar
Never permits to mix up
The joyous playful hour
Fades away

Have little mercy
Extend love and affection
Guide with proper direction
Devote good thinking
Impose suitable resources
And better assurance
To safeguard them
Beautiful their lives
Help them all bloom
Bloom freely
To face the future with confidence
This is a heartfelt request
On behalf of all the needy children
On this earth

Price and Value

His walking stick
Did assist him
To maintain balance
In the crowded jolting bus.
He knew, though old, not to
Disturb others' comfort.
"Tickets, tickets, tickets!"
The young voice roared
Combing the crowd inside.
The old man with much difficulty
Took out a folded note
Which had apparently been
Preserved for a long time;
"Maru salli, Maru salli" (changes)
The young voice demanded.
"Maru salli Nene" (no changes)
The feeble voice muttered.
The bell ran thrice
And the bus stopped with a creak
Storming the dust!

An agony of a parent

Oh! My children!
Where are you living sans being close to me
To look after me in my feeble phase of life?
I am languishing in isolation
With my scanty pension
Your beloved mother too is bedridden
With paralysis
I am too weak to look after her
All alone.

You are all abroad
Quite free from the responsibility of
Attending on your aged father
You have forgotten your beloved parents
Without even talking to us on phone
I think you are terribly busy
In your western environment
Will your children forget both of you
When you grow too old?

In my frustration
I have applied for shelter
In an elders home
To spend my final phase of
Worldly life
So you can find me and your paralyzed
Mother in an elders home
When you return to Sri Lanka

Water is Life

Fresh and pure flows along
Filled to depth in rivers and lakes
Water falls are miles in length
Globe around is ocean blue

A threat for life while hot and warm
Swim is cool for the tiring day
Quench the thirst with million drops
Water is health and wealth of life

Freedom

Just like a feather;
Just like clear sky.
Without borders,
Without limits,
Extending to the far horizon;
Freedom!
The very thought of it,
Makes anyone feel free.
It makes you feel big,
Bigger than the ocean
It makes you feel strong,
Stronger than the mountains.
It makes you feel light,
Lighter than the wind.
Freedom!
The word which is going far & far;
'Cause we are working day & night.

Beyond the window

Midnight
I felt... someone crying
beside the city street
from a corner
dark and dirty
a sob... silence and again... a sob
My eyes crept towards
and met a MOON
tears...glittering tears...
running down her cheeks
Seeking an answer
started crying
My Heart;
"why...why...and why
in this moonless night
a Cry...!"
I still remember
that moonless night
dark and dull...
the moon in the corner
resuming the cry
Even if I die
the moon will cry

Splendour of the Hill Capital

The scenic city
Of the hill capital
Adorning with mountains
Of Central Sri Lanka
'Senkadagala pura' being its name
The historic kingdom
Of our warrior kings of the past
Being renamed by the British
with that sweet name
'Kandy'

Blessed with the presence of
The 'Temple of the Tooth'
In the precincts of the
beautiful 'Kandy lake'
Surrounded by the
Mountain range of
'Hantana' and 'Bahirawa' fame
Beneath the lush greenery
Of the 'Udawatte'
& 'Dunumadalawa' forests

The grounds of
'Bogambara' & 'Asgiriya'
adding to its charm
with its quiet and salubrious climes
making many a heart enchanted
undoubtedly ranked
amongst the most photographed
cities of the world
concealing the mysteries of history
elegantly lies
'Kandy'
the 'Heritage City' of the world!

Judgement Moment

Feel Swell
Among the rumbustious
Crowd
Emptying
Without limits
Enticing glasses of red wine
Floating
Like a care – free bird on air
While mirth keeps me company
Gently reminiscing me
About a vortex of
Joyful and nostalgic memories

And I being contended
Desire no company
To disturb
The flux of thoughts, rudely
Like merciless robbers
Entering uninvited
To ransack my abode

Thus I fervently pray

To lengthen the hours
Till eternity

Though death
Will approach me
Like an ogre
At an awkward hour
Handing over the judgment
Symbolically,
Without any malice
Dutifully handing over to me
A white Lilly
