Devans unbeaten

A combination of good batting and bowling efforts led Maliyadeva College Kurunegala to a massive 160 run victory over Sri Sumangala College Kandy in their under 17 Division I cricket tournament match played at Pallekele.

Nimna Karunarathne who was in form throughout the tournament, hit a half ton (75) to lift the Maliyadeva total to 266, well supported by teammate Tharindu Abeysuriya who scored 53.

L. A. Yatawatte took 5 for 49 on behalf of the home team but it was not enough to restrict the visitors for a lower score. In reply, Rasanjana Jayarathne who took 4 for 13 led the Maliyadeva bowling attack to bowl out the home team for just 106 runs. K. P. Madhuka scored 35. Maliyadeva College remain unbeaten so far in the tournament having defeated Trinity College, St. Thomas’ College Matale and St. Sylvester’s College previously.

Maliyadeva: 266 (Nimna Karunarathne 75, Tharindu Abeysuriya 53, Chamod Rajapaksha 21, L.A. Yatawatte 5 for 49)

Sri Sumangala: 106 (K.P. Madhuka 35, Rasanjana Jayarathne 4 for 13, S. Atapattu 2 for 11, G. Jayantha 2 for 15)
