Vietnam punishes political corruption
Vietnam: The Vietnamese Communist Party (VCP) announced Wednesday its
decision to punish several political leaders for a series of violations
threatening the Party’s prestige.
Weak leadership, ostentatious lifestyles, and moral degeneration are
some of the charges against two party branches and six members
investigated by the VCP´s Central Committee.
Those punished include Nguyen Truong To, Ha Giang province Governor
and Pham Thanh Binh, Party Secretary at the shipbuilding company
Vinashin, both are to be dismissed. According to the investigation To
began violating a series of rules on moral behavior as of 2005, while
Binh embezzled state resources and put Vinashin on the verge of
bankruptcy.
Political officials in Yen Bai and Quang Ninh provinces are also
awaiting punishment for similar violations, which undermine the VCP´s
credibility and authority among the people.
