There will be some amendments to the z-score system in the near
future, Higher Education Minister S. B. Dissanayake said during
discussions with Colombo Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. Malcolm Ranjith at the
Archbishop’s House, Borella yesterday.
The Minister said there are lots of talented students in the
traditional subjects but they are unable to enter university because of
the z-score.
Some students are proficient in traditional dancing while some
students can play music instruments well. However those who are talented
fail to enter universities. This system should be changed, he added.
“There are over two million vacancies for nurses overseas. We will
take steps to seize on this opportunity. Aquinas College is producing
world class diploma holders and in the future they will grant
scholarships to students to apply to this institute. We will provide
help enhance the quality of education at Aquinas College of Higher
Studies.”
