New book from Guru

Multi-talented artiste Upul Guruge who had trailblazed in a number of
fields including script writing, documentary making, acting, singing and
writing will launch his latest book at the Borella Punchi Theatre on
July 12.
Seasoned journalist Nuwan Nayanahith Kumara and Dr. Patrick Anthony
will address the gathering at the event which sees the Japanese Kurosawa
and Ozu in the format of a book.
"I became interested in the Japanese culture and arts when I visited
the country due to a scholarship during my O\Ls. I watched Rashoman
later and this lured me to study Japanese cinema. I came to Colombo in
1996 and began research on the subject. I took part in film festivals
which showcased foreign films. Once I entered Kelaniya University began
studies I developed my knowledge on cinema. The book is a result of my
years of research," Guruge or Guru, as he is known among his friends,
said.
He had previously penned books such as Sangeethaya Heta Davasa -
Khemadasa on the music of Premasiri Khemadasa, Gamaka Viththi,
children's stories named Punchi Ran Maluwa and Thanata Sudusu Nuwana. He
hopes to write more children's books in the future.
tarting his career as an actor under Khemadasa Guru had taken part in
a number of creations like Udugamyamaya, Salelawarama, Veeraya Marila,
Asani Walahaka and others. He also took part in a number of short films:
Rishad Aryan's Sithum, Lahiru Samarasinghe's Apey Gedara, Lakshman Dias'
Tomorrow and The Love. He is scripting and acting in a film based on the
topic os youth in the third world these days. It is produced by a none
Government agency. |
