Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa win major trophies

Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa did well by annexing one Caltex Champions Trophy for Volleyball (Girls) and two Caltex Runners up trophies for Netball and Volleyball (Boys) at the Deaf Schools Sports Activities.

The Deaf Schools Netball and six-a-side softball cricket tournaments were played at the Shalika Grounds, Narahenpita while the Deaf Schools Volleyball Tournaments (Boys and Girls) were played at the School for the Deaf grounds Ratmalana recently.

These sport events were organized by the Deaf School Past Pupils' Association, the School for the Deaf, Ratmalana under Shivantha Vivekanandan, President and Chairman - Organizing Committee and were partnered by Chervon Lubricants Lanka PLC.

The Principal Sponsor was Sri Lanka Telecom PLC and the other sponsors were Stassen Exports Ltd, Ceylon Cold Stores PLC, DSI Samson Group, Darley Butler and Co. Ltd and Maliban Biscuit Manufacturers Ltd.

Quarter Finals

The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana beat Koswana Sayan Deaf School 16/0, YMCA School for Deaf Children, Batticaloa beat Sandagala Special School, Kurunegala 5/4, Sri Sudarshi Deaf and Blind School, Bandarawela beat Senkadagala Deaf and Blind School, Kandy 15/1, Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa beat Rohana Special School 9/3.

Semi-finals

The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana beat YMCA School for Deaf Children, Batticaloa 6/3, Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa beat Sri Sudarshi Deaf and Blind School, Bandarawela 9/1.

Finals

The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana beat Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa 17/6.

Thihariya - 46 runs all out in 5 overs.

Matale - 34 runs all out in 5 overs.

The School for the Deaf, Tangalle beat Sandagala Special School, Kurunegala by 1 run.

Tangalle - 52 runs all out in 5 overs.

Kurunegala - 51 runs all out in 4.4 overs.

Senkadagala Deaf and Blind School, Kandy received a walk over from Yasodara Deaf and Blind School, Balangoda.

Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa beat Rohana Special School, Matara by 43 runs.

Mahawewa - 106 runs all out in 5 overs.

Matara - 63 runs all out in 4.1 overs.

Islamic Centre for the physically Handicapped, Thihariya beat the School for the Deaf, Ratmalana by 2 wickets.

Ratmalana - 36 runs all out in 3.4 overs.

Thihariya - 40 runs for 3 wickets in 4 overs.

Sri Sudharshi Deaf and Blind School, Bandarawela beat Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa by 5 wickets.

Mahawewa - 52 runs all out in 3 overs.

Bandarawela - 53 runs for 1 wicket in 3.5 overs.
