Chaminda PERERA
The Government will soon introduce a program which aims at creating
moral and economic development among the people in the North and the
East. This program will be centred on religious places in the two
provinces.
According to Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne, all religious places in
the North and the East will also be developed soon. The first phase of
this development project is expected to begin next week.
Addressing the members of the Islamic Religious Affairs Committee at
the Parliamentary complex, Prime Minister Jayaratne added that foreign
assistance would also be sought for the development of such religious
places in addition to the funds allocated by the State.
The Committee drew the attention on the need of having a stable set
of rules with regard to the usage of loudspeakers at Islamic religious
centres. The Committee members discuss the problems faced by the clergy
at Islamic religious places in the two Provinces.
Prime Minister Jayaratne instructed the officials to draw up a
comprehensive plan to ensure the welfare of Muslim women who were
widowed by the conflict. |
