UNP Parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa appeared confused on the
harvesting seasons of Sri Lanka Yala with Maha when raising a question
in Parliament.
Premadasa said the harvest collected during the Yala Season was not
sold at proper prices and due to this, farmers had to face many
difficulties.
Namal Rajapaksa MP who also hails from the Hambantota District as
Premadasa, was amazed at the question as it is the Yala season's harvest
that needs to be collected.
Rajapaksa provided details in this regard to Minister Johnston

Minister Fernando said he visited Hambantota and Kilinochchi with
Rajapaksa. "Farmers no longer commit suicide," said Minister Fernando
and added that Yala harvest will be collected at the proper time. To
The Minister said 5,000 kilos of paddy was harvested in Kilinochchi
alone while the Hambantota harvest has already been purchased by the
Government. He said the Government is ready to purchase the Yala harvest
islandwide soon.
"During the time of your father, the late President R Premadasa there
were 386 collecting stalls but as he closed many, there are only 136
stores now. The best thing for you is to contest from Colombo not from
Hambantota," the Minister said.
Premadasa approaching Rajapaksa said: "Johny handled your contract
well" and the reply from Rajapaksa was:
"There is nothing I can do, you didn't know Yala from Maha."
