Joes and Mahamaya swimming champions

St. Joseph’s College, Maradana and Mahamaya College Kandy proved
their dominance by defending their championship titles at the 37th Sri
Lanka Schools Swimming Championships, concluded at the Ananda College
swimming complex yesterday.
This is the seventh occasion that the Joes secured the title.
They collected 634 points. Royal College were placed second with 526
points while Ananda College were third with 402 points.
As expected, the girls from the hill capital were seen dominating as
the Mahamaya Girls retained the title, winning it for the 12th occasion.
The Kandyans collected 578 points, leaving a considerable margin for
the Ladies College who were placed second with 363 points and Vishaka
Vidyalaya who were placed third with 328 points.
Over 1300 boys and girls were seen in action during the four day meet
which took a festive atmosphere.
The meet was organized and conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic
Sports Association (SLSASA) however, the diving championships have been
postponed indefinitely as the Sugathadasa Swimming Complex is under
repair and the dates will be announced later.
Individual champions:
Under-09 Girls: Devinya Jayawardena (Mahamaya College Kandy) and

Under-11 Girls: Lashini Rajasinghe(Maris Stella College, Negombo)
Boys: Dineth Sanjula Jayakodi (Maris Stella College, Negombo)
Under-13 Girls: Amanda Jayasekera (Musaeus College)
Boys: Gavin Shamika (Royal College)
Under-15 Girls: Nadeera Jayasekera (Vishaka Vidyalaya)
Boys: Mathew Abeysinghe (Asian International School)
Under-17 Girls: Udara Cumarathunga (Vishaka Vidyalaya)
Boys: Praneeth Udumalagala (St. Joseph’s College)
Under-19 Girls: Miniruwani Samarakoon (Girls’ High School, Kandy)
