Five arrested for transporting heroin

Matara Police have arrested a businessman and four others for allegedly transporting heroin to several areas in the Matara District. On being produced before the Matara Magistrate Udesh Ranatunga three suspects pleaded guilty and were fined Rs 30,000.

The other two were remanded till July 9.

The suspects together with 35 packets of heroin were arrested at Tudawa, Matara by OIC Matara Fraud Bureau IP G. S. Sanjeewa and police constables Samantha (525900), Kumudu (566120) and Vithana (55952). Matara Police are conducting investigations.
