Needy woman gets shelter

The "77 youth batch" in Galewela has donated a house worth over two
lakhs to a needy woman in Kendangamuwa village in Galewela division.
H. M. Mallika (46) a widow woman of four children aged 15, 12, 10 and
two years had lived in a cadjan hut for over fifteen years. Her husband
had died last year.
Kendangamuwa Grama Niladhari Ruwan Rathnayaka who is a member of the
"77 youth batch" and got other members of their society's help to build
a house for Mallika. They were able to finish the work within two
months. Some youth in the village too helped in the work to build the
house.
Galewela Divisional Secretary Wasantha Wanninayaka handed over the
house to Mallika at a simple ceremony recently.
Manjula Ekanayaka, a leading businessman in the "77 youth batch" also
donated a milk cow worth Rs 40,000 to Mallika. |
