Certificate issuing accelerated:
Good atmosphere through Citizen’s Charter

The Citizen’s Charter introduced by the Public Administration and
Home Affairs Ministry in district offices has created a good atmosphere
accelerating the process of issuing birth, marriage and death
certificates, a Registrar General’s Department senior official said.
The Senior Official told the Daily News the computer aided
certificate issuing system which had been introduced at Divisional
Secretariat level through the BMD (Birth, Marriages, Deaths) project was
able to create a new office atmosphere with a satisfactory service to
the people. The Registrar General’s Department registered 179,557
marriages, 308,579 births and 11,704 deaths during last year.
Department sources said 652 marriages, 3,606 births and 25 deaths had
been registered in the Sri Lanka diplomatic missions abroad within the
same period.
The Department also collected a revenue of Rs. 295,518 from certified
copies of birth, marriage and death certificates.
He said a special program aimed at issuing birth certificates to
those who have not registered their births so far in plantation workers
was successfully completed issuing 15,000 birth certificates. |
