Major General Shavendra Silva said the Sri Lanka Army will excel in
every field in the country within a very short period. He added that the
SLA’s operations remain continued after the May 18th victory over
terrorism. He said that the SLA is engaged in a operation for the
reconstruction of war ravaged areas. Silva said that the Sri Army has
made wider contribution to the Government’s reconstruction efforts in
the war ravaged area. Major General Silva was delivering a lecture on
Lessons from Winning Military Strategies at the Institute of Personnel
Management at Rajagiriya yesterday. “Our men are present in
reconstruction and development process in the North and the East.
Shavendra Silva, the youngest Major General in the Sri Lanka Army
said the SLA personnel have de-mined areas which the INGOs and NGOs have
never thought of.
He added that the SLA de-mining crew has posted a record by clearing
a large extent of area dotted with land-mines and anti-personnel mines.
Silva urged the public to be more vigilant though the LTTE was
physically eliminated from the country.
He asked why certain international elements are engaged in monitoring
the activities of Sri Lanka after terrorism was eliminated with much
sacrifices by the Armed Forces and the general public. “The whole
country fought for freedom and we won it. We will protect the liberty
that we won,” he added.
