Stolen statue recovered

Medagama Police investigating a recent robbery of a marble Buddha statue weighing 44 kilos from the Pothubaddhana Raja Maha Viharaya arrested two suspects at Arawatta, Mahiyangana along with the statue while they were polishing it for sale.

The suspects said to be residents of Beraliyapola and Maswala were due to be produced before the Bibile magistrate. Investigations are continuing.

Meanwhile 25 workers attached to a private institution in the Katunayake Investment Promotion zone were admitted to the Negombo hospital on Thursday with a suspected history of food poisoning. The same day, Kokkacicholai Police found a live hand grenade and 153 T 56 ammunition buried near a tomb in the Arsathathivu cemetery.
