Appeal Court dismisses bail application

The Court of Appeal yesterday dismissed a bail application in respect of Kalutara District UNP Parliamentarian Palitha Kumara Theverapperuma who is in remand custody.

Court upholding the Attorney General's objections dismissed the application. However, Court advised the petitioner to file a fresh application with the relevant material.

State Counsel Laila Nasry for the Attorney General objected to suspect being release on bail since the relevant material had not been filed before court.

The Bench comprised Justice Ranjit Sliva and Justice D.C S. Lecamwasam.

The suspect's wife Petitioner Amitha Amaratunga said her husband was arrested last December and implicated him in a case of theft of vehicle and assault.

The petitioner stated that her husband was not involved in the alleged incidents and sought to enlarge him on bail.
