Facilities for bakery owners to go North

Internal Trade and Co-operatives Minister Johnston Fernando who met the Association of Bakery Owners said the Government would provide facilities to open bakeries in the North when he met them at the Ministry on Thursday.

The Bakery Association expressed their willingness to start business in the North, a Ministry press release said yesterday.

The association requested the Minister to exempt bread from the Defence Levy and also to allow a 400 gram loaf of bread to be allowed as the standard.

The Minister who explained the conditions of the ordinance governing bakery owners said according to the law, a loaf of bread should weigh 450 grams.

The Minister also told association representatives that he would take up the matter of providing tax relief to them with President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
