Nano technology can boost exports - Prof Vitarana

The Technology and Research Ministry will boost Nano technology in Sri Lanka. This advanced technology will create a competitive business environment for Sri Lankan export products in the world market, Technology and Research Minister Prof Tissa Vitarana said.

Sri Lanka is exporting more raw materials than finished goods to the world market.

Due to this, Sri Lanka loses foreign exchange. With the development of nano technology Sri Lankan export products will be more qualitative and it will increase our foreign exchange, said Prof. Vitarana, after visiting Sri Lanka Nano Technology Institute last week.

In 2009, nano technology was introduced to Sri Lanka and the Institute was opened at Biyagama Export Processing Zone.

The aim was to use advanced technology to improve the quality of export products. Up to now SLINTEC have received four patent licence from the United States.

Sri Lanka should implement nano technology in the industrial and agricultural areas, the Minister said.

More than 92 countries are following this technology and most of them are developed countries such as Japan, Singapore, South Korea and UK.
