Wet weather predicted

The Meteorology Department predicted thundershowers in several parts of the country despite the non activation of the southwest monsoonal rain.

Meteorology Department duty forecaster Damayanthi Indiketihewage said heavy rain and thundershowers will be experienced in the Southwestern quarter of the country in the next few days.

Thundershowers will spread in the Western, Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces as well as Galle and Matara districts.

Strong winds have decreased while scattered rain will develop in the Uva and Eastern Provinces during the afternoon or evening, the forecaster added. “This is a normal weather pattern. The southwestern monsoonal rain has not been activated. Therefore, there is no flood threat,” Indiketihewage said.

The seas in the southwest, west, southeast and Gulf of Mannar will be rough at times.
