Link Samahan gains approval from Health Canada

Link Samahan, recently gained entry into the Canadian market. Link Samahan has satisfied the extremely stringent criteria of the Natural Health Products Directorate in Canada for licensing under that country’s Natural Health Products Regulations.

“Obtaining the licence from The Natural Health Products Directorate, of Health Canada is a significant achievement. It took over two years, because of the extremely stringent criteria imposed under Canadian Natural Health Products Regulations,” said Link Natural Products (Pvt) Limited Chairman Dr. Devapriya Nugawela.

Extensive details of the manufacturing facility in Dompe, its research laboratory and quality assurance systems along with written confirmation of its safety and efficacy provided by practising ayurvedic specialists had also to be provided. Dr. Nugawela said “It took a team of specialists, Ayurvedic physicians and scientists over five years to finalize the formula and arrive at the scientifically optimized process protocol for producing Link Samahan.

It was this rigorous commitment to research, quality assurance and scientific integrity that enabled it to prove successful in obtaining the much coveted licence to market Link Samahan in Canada.”

Prof. Colvin Goonaratna, recounted of how his association with Link Samahan began as Chairman of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation from 1994 to 2001.

Link Samahan was tested for a wide range of western allopathic drugs including paracetamol, prednisolone and other steroids following allegations that Link Samahan contained western medicinal drugs. Prof. Goonaratna said that Link Samahan was entirely herbal in composition and contained no western medicinal drug of any kind.

“The efficacy of Link Samahan is related to its very special formulation and its property of enhancing our body’s natural immune system when taken regularly,” he said.

Besides Canada, Link Samahan is also exported to the USA, India, Malaysia, Singapore, the Middle East and Latvia, and is available for sale in several other countries.

Export to the USA required conformity with the DHSEA Act, which places emphasis” on safety and claims for efficacy, for which a prerequisite were test reports from the University of Cambridge and the University of Georgia, which confirmed that Link Samahan is a 100 percent natural product.

Excellent pass rate for Monash College engineering students at ANC

Sujan Warnakulasooriya is the recipient of the Award of Excellence for his results in the Monash College Diploma of Engineering Studies in March 2010. The award is bestowed every semester by Monash College Australia to the student who receives the highest results in the undergraduate diploma across Asia and Australia.

Giving his views on the success of their engineering students, Monash College programs in Sri Lanka Dean Alan Robertson said, “it gives us pride that we have produced three such outstanding students from the Diploma of Engineering in Sri Lanka.”

Previous Sri Lankan recipients of the Award of Excellence for the Monash College Diploma of Engineering Studies are Shehara Prinesh Fernando and Habeebullah Mohamed Illiyas.

Roberston went on to say that engineering students who studied a Monash College diploma in Sri Lanka have a pass rate of more than 90 percent at Monash University, with a sizeable proportion receiving high distinction and distinction passes in their units.

Sujan joined ANC Education who delivers Monash College programs in Sri Lanka, in February 2009 after successfully completing his A/Levels at St. Joseph’s College.

He was offered a position at a Sri Lankan university but not in his preferred degree. Sujan dreamt of becoming an engineer and was also looking for a well recognized qualification.

These reasons prompted him to commence his studies at ANC as he was able to transition to the Bachelor of Engineering (Mechatronics) and graduate from one of the world’s top universities.

Sharing his thoughts on receiving the award Sujan said “I completed my Diploma with a total average of 87 percent which turned out to be the highest score from all the students who completed the Diploma of Engineering Studies this semester, including the students in Australia. I am so happy to receive this award. I really worked hard and it’s great to be rewarded for it! I thank my lecturers for the guidance they gave me to bring out my true potential.

I just completed the first semester of my second year of the degree at Monash University, Malaysia and find it to be an exciting change.” “The method of teaching included interesting practical exercises such as building scaled down versions of bridges. But my most memorable moments are the field trips,” said Sujan, who was also the President of the Engineering Club at ANC.

Students with A/Levels may be accepted into Part two of a Monash College engineering or business undergraduate diploma, available in Engineering and Business. In the diploma Part two, students undertake the equivalent of first year studies at Monash University.

On completing the diploma, and achieving the entry requirements, students progress directly into the second year of their chosen Monash University degree in Australia, Malaysia or South Africa.

The Monash Faculty of Engineering is one of the largest in Australia, and is renowned worldwide for the quality of its teaching and research, and the calibre of its graduates. Monash Engineering courses are fully accredited by the Institution of Engineers Australia (IEAust).

For its graduates, full accreditation of the IEAust ensures global professional recognition of the university’s engineering programs as a result of Australia’s membership in the Washington Accord, whose signatories include countries like Australia, United Kingdom, United States, Hong Kong, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa.

A member of Australia’s prestigious Group of Eight universities, Monash University is ranked among the top 50 universities in the world.* It is Australia’s largest university offering courses across ten faculties and eight campuses.

Monash graduates enjoy a high level of recognition anywhere in the world, as they are ranked by employers as number 13 in the world. It is no doubt that a Monash degree provides the passport into a rewarding career.
