CR and FC in smashing 29-6 win over Air Force
CR and FC propelled by their power-packed forwards scored a smashing
29 points (three goals, one try, one penalty) to 6 (two penalties) win
over Sri Lanka Air Force in their Caltex 'A' division League Cup
championship rugby match played at Katunayake yesterday after leading
15-6 at the breather.
The Red Shirts 'eight' despite missing the services of skipper
Dushanth Lewke due to injury, came up with a sterling display to outplay
their counterparts in the loose. Flanker Danushka Perera was a source of
inspiration to his team-mates with his fiery loose play and was ably
supported by Roshenka Kodituwakku, Anuja Perera, Ishan Noor, Sharo
Fernando and Henry Terrence as the CR 'eight' reigned supreme in the
loose.
CR and FC opened scoring in the first half through flanker Danushka
Perera which was converted by full back Reza Mubarak. The Airmen reduced
the deficit when fly half Chanaka Chandimal fired across two penalties
from 25 metres out. Midway in the first half CR and FC hooker Anuja
Perera fell over for an unconverted try and a few minutes before the
breather full back Reza Mubarak put over a 30 metre penalty to give CR a
15-6 lead at 'lemons'. The second half was dominated by CR and FC who
scored two more tries through flanker Roshenka Kodituwakku and winger
Dinusha Chathuranga with Reza Mubarak adding the extra points to both
tries to give the Red Shirts a resounding 29-6 win.
