All Lankans celebrated Poson freely

The splendour of Poson festival is celebrated today by all Sri Lankans together. The terrorists had prevented the freedom of worship for over a period of three decades.

After defeating terrorism now the opportunity has dawned for all communities to pursue their religious observances President Mahinda Rajapaksa said. The President expressed these views at the event of illumination of the program held in Situlpawwa Rajamaha Viharaya premises during Poson.

The President said, I am extremely happy to see all Sri Lankans celebrate Poson together.

The President pointed out that it is the responsibility of the elders to mould the future generation so that there would be a virtuous society. The younger generation needs a good virtuous society without hatred. Elders should determine during this festivities to guide their children towards better virtues. Likewise in Anuradhapura Poson festival has to be celebrated in the South also on a grand scale in the future.

Situlpawwa Rajamaha Viharaya Chief Incumbent Ven. Metaramba Hemaratana Nayaka Thera said the President brought freedom to everybody to enable them to engage in religious activities freely. The Thera evaluated the service rendered by the President to save the Situlpawwa Rajamaha Viharaya from the clutches of the LTTE.

Here the book titled ‘Rahatun Wadasiti Ramaneeya Situlpawwa’ written by the incumbent Thera and Dr. K. A. D. Illeperuma and ‘Teseththagnana’ written by Kandarapanguwe Dhammasiri Thera were offered to the President.

Deputy Speaker Priyankara Jayaratne, Dayaka Sabha Vice Chairman Dhammika Attigala and a large crowd participated in the program.
