Indian Navy Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nirmal Verma accompanied by
an Indian delegation and Madurika Verma arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday
on an official visit at the invitation of the Sri Lanka Government and
Navy Commander Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe. His visit will promote
existing bilateral relations of the two countries and strengthen the
mutual cooperation between the two Navies.
He will stay here until July 2 and will attend a series of programs
arranged by the Sri Lanka Navy.
Indian Navy Ship INS Delhi also arrived at the Port of Colombo on a
goodwill visit. Upon arrival at the port, She was ceremonially welcomed
by the Sri Lanka Navy.
INS Delhi is a destroyer with a displacement of 6900 tons and is 163
metres in length and 17 metres in breath. It has a complement of 410
naval personnel including 50 officers and 360 sailors and is commanded
by Captain S. Srikant.
Gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest at the Naval Officer Passing
Out Parade to be held at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee
will be a special feature of Admiral Verma’s visit. |
