MBSL launches Life Guard

MBSL Insurance Company Ltd, a subsidiary of Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka (MBSL) under the Bank of Ceylon launched its newest insurance policy - Life Guard, with the purpose of providing a better customer service.

Speaking at the launching ceremony MBSL Chairman M.R. Shah said, “Life Guard is a unique personal accident insurance policy. This insurance policy is essential for each and every individual who seeks to indemnify himself or herself against the personal accident. This insurance policy is ideal for insuring the risk of any accidental death or injury during the policy period.

Life Guard policy provides compensations in event of any death or injury during the policy period.

The policy pays up to Rs. one million for accidental death, permanent disability, loss of limbs and eyes among others.

In addition, the policy will cover up to 50 percent of sum insured value for amputation of the arm from the shoulder, amputation of the hand from the wrist, the loss of a leg, the loss of an eye, total deafness he said.

MBSL General Manager - Marketing Adel Hashim said, “Today we are ready to make a revolutionary change in the insurance industry.

We believe the newly introduced insurance policy will be very appropriate for the living patterns of the people in Sri Lanka. Currently we are not very big in the market but we hope to win the hearts of the customers very soon with our quality service.”

The first policies were presented to MAS Holdings Chairman Mahesh Amalean, NSB Chairman Pradeep Kariyawasam, MBSL CEO Gamini Karunatilaka, BoC CFO Asoka Rupasinghe and Bartleet Trans Capital General Manager Manjula Ariyaratne.


Etisalat Sponsors Arab Economic Forum

Etisalat sponsored the 18th Arab Economic Forum, which took place at the InterContinental Phoenicia Beirut hotel , under the theme of The Arab Economy after the Crisis. The forum was attended by the Lebanese Prime Minister. Saad Al Hariri and an assembly of major banking and financial figures and a large number of investors and specialists in the business sector.

Etisalat’s Chief International Investment Officer, Jamal Al Jarwan participated in the first seminar at the forum which was entitled Global Economy, Post Crisis Phase. Al Jarwan spoke about Etisalat’s latest achievements in its international operations and about the company’s future goals for mobile broadband in its markets.

Al Jarwan also discussed Etisalat’s fiber to the home services for individual and business customers.

He also spoke about Etisalat’s successful experience in its international markets. He focused on Mobily’s achievements as a Greenfield operator from its launch to its position today one of most successful and fastest growing operators in the world. Mobily’s network will be the corner stone for developing innovative services and solutions for its customers.

Al Jarwan also discussed Etisalat’s experience in Egypt where Etisalat Misr has expanded its 3.5G network across 40 cities by the end of 2007.


At Cannes Lions:

Two young Burnetters represent Sri Lanka

Shayani Obeysekere and Samantha Weerawardene from Leo Burnett Solutions Inc., the Sri Lankan office of the internationally acclaimed advertising agency network Leo Burnett Worldwide, were selected to represent Sri Lanka at the annual Cannes Young Lions Print Competition, in Cannes, France, this year. “We’re very excited to be representing Sri Lanka at this competition,” said Shayani and Samantha, before departing to Cannes. “We’re glad our campaign based on the hunt for curiosity worked in our favour and won us this prestigious place to represent the country at the world’s most respected advertising festival,” they said.

Shayani and Samantha were chosen from a preliminary competition organised by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies (4A’s) together with MetalFactor - the representative for the Cannes Lions Festival in Sri Lanka. Several teams representing the advertising agencies in Sri Lanka competed at the local competition which was judged by a jury comprising five representatives from the industry chaired by Words Managing Director Rohan Rajaratnam.

The preliminaries conducted in Colombo comprised a two-day competition wherein the contestants had to develop a campaign to support a brief which was issued to them.

After which mentors who were senior creative people from the industry guided them through their work. For the final assessment the teams were required to make a presentation to the jury.

Leo Burnett Solutions Inc., places emphasis on professional development and is focused on grooming the young talent in the team to help them meet with success both locally and internationally. Shayani and Samantha’s selection to represent Sri Lanka at the Cannes Young Lions competition this year is a worthy endorsement for the company’s commitment to training its youth.

This is the second consecutive year that Leo Burnett has won the competition to send two young professionals to the Cannes Lions festival to further their knowledge and learning in this evolving marketing communications industry. “I am proud of Shayani and Samantha’s achievement. The brief for this year’s Cannes Young Lions preliminary competition was issued from ANCL who were the sponsors of the Young Lions Print Team. The brief shared with the contestants was to help popularise its new supplement titled the Daily News Wisdom Series, which is issued everyday with the Daily News.

The two Young Lions from Leo Burnett were grateful to those behind the competition for giving them a chance to participate in the world’s most prestigious advertising festival. Sampath Bank Panadura branch organizes workshop

As a forerunner to the “Inter-Schools Debating Championships” to be held in July 2010, Sampath Bank Panadura Branch organized a one day workshop in debating, oratory skills, public speaking and leadership for the schoolchildren in the Panadura district recently.

The event was held with the participation of students and teachers from 12 schools in the Panadura district and was held at the auditorium of the Agamathi Balika Vidyalaya, Panadura.

The “Inter Schools Debating Championships” will be held in three rounds and the grand finale of the event will be held on July 17 at the Agamathi Balika Vidyalaya auditorium.
