Ladies Stroke Play Golf C’ship from June 25 to 27

The Victoria Golf and Country Resort will host the prestigious
Mackwoods Ladies Stroke Play Golf Championship 2010 which will be worked
off at the picturesque Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella off Kandy from
June 25 to 27 with the first off at 7.30 a.m.
This Ladies Golf Championship which is one of the biggest golf
competitions to be held in the country was first played in 1974 and
since then has been sponsored by Mackwoods Limited over the years in
memory of the first Sri Lankan Chairman N. S. O. Mendis. Since then the
tradition has been followed by his daughter the late Mrs. Sriyani Nonis
and grandchildren present Chairman Dr. Chris Nonis and Mrs. Nirmalee
Samaratunga who is the present Co. Chairman and Managing Director
continue to support the Sri Lanka Golf Union with their long-standing
sponsorship of this prestigious event.
This championship is open to all Amateur golfers who are members of a
recognised golf club and have a certified handicap from Sri Lanka Golf
Union, USGA or club handicap.
The Mackwoods Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the Lady Golfer
returning the lowest Gross Aggregate score over 54 holes or three rounds
with Victoria being a 18 hole course.
The defending champion is Jackie Dias who won it last year and the
runner up is Suwaneetha Selvaratnam. But they will receive tough
competition from the golfers from Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Colombo who
are expected in the fray. Entry forms could be had from Victoria Golf

Golf Club.
This championship is one of the most prestigious golfing event for
Lady Golfers conducted by the Sri Lanka Golf Union which is the
governing body for golf in Sri Lanka.
Apart from the main championship title there will be also daily
prizes and the golfers will also vie for the Nuwara Eliya Golf Challenge
Cup run concurrently with this tournament and the winner will be the
golfer having the Best Aggregate Nett Score over 54 holes. There will be
also a Bronze Cup for the high handicap golfers. |
