UNP Chairman Gamini Jayawickrama Perera and others who went to the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kandy to receive UNP and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday waited for one and half hours but had to go away as Wickremesinghe did not come as scheduled for worship at the shrine.

The UNP Chairman arrived in the precincts of the Dalada Maligawa at 9.00 a.m., as the UNP leader who was to address a conference of Provincial Council Opposition Leaders at Kandy was to come to the shrine for worship before attending the meeting.

The UNP leader had gone directly to the Hotel Suisse to address the meeting of Provincial Council Opposition Leaders and UNP Chairmen and the Kandy press corps waited from 9.00 am to 10.30 am. They went away when UNP Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella informed them that the UNP leader was not coming to the Dalada Maligawa.
